Providing surf lessons in perth

Learn how to surf with GoSurf Perth, an ASI accredited surf school, located at Brighton Beach (Southern end of Scarborough Beach), Perth, Western Australia. It’s one of the Perth’s favourite locations for learning to surf.

GoSurf Perth offers group and private surfing lessons, beginner and intermediate surfing certificate courses, advanced surf coaching tuition, team building sessions, surfing awareness for kids, adults, parties, school groups, mothers, backpackers and corporate groups. Large groups of surfers can also be accommodated.

GoSurf Perth is owned and run by a father and son team, Andy and Tom “Bomber” Johnston. Andy is a veteran of the sport with over 35-years of surfing experience and has surfed all over the world. His passion and love for the sport lead naturally into teaching his son Bomber to surf at a very young age (basically before he could walk). Bomber has since travelled extensively around the globe, surfing and teaching surfing to people from all walks of life. He’s been surfing since he can remember representing Western Australia in the sport and has also been a surf coaching for 10-years.

Bomber, Andy and the GoSurf team are all accredited surfing instructors, holding surf rescue, and senior first aid qualifications and working with children checks.

Tom "Bomber" Johnston

Tom "Bomber" Johnston is the owner and head coach at GoSurf. After years of juggling a full time corporate position with part-time surf coaching, he decided to follow his passion and make coaching his primary role. In late 2015 he took over operations at GoSurf and now enjoys the beach as his office.

Ben Mercier

Ben has been with GoSurf for 2 years now. After coming through the school surfing program, Ben fell in love with the idea of passing on his surfing knowledge to others. His passion, good humor and cheeky smile are all attributes that make him one of those guys that you just want to hang with. He is also the Go Surf weather man who is constantly up to date with the forecasts and weather patterns.

Liam Kump

Coach Liam has been with GoSurf since 2021, and it’s clear to see why he’s stuck around. Liam’s dependable and friendly nature is super helpful in the water, and he’s always persistent in helping surfers find their rhythm and get to their feet. You'll often find Liam out at Brighton riding a 7ft Bush Chook or grabbing his morning coffee at C-Breez.

Harley ‘H’ Waddell

‘H’ is GoSurf’s head coach and manager and has been with us since 2018. His energy, charisma and passion for teaching is all too evident. If you ever have the pleasure of Harley being your instructor, you will see what we mean. A very valued member of the GoSurf family who thrives on educating and inspiring people of all ages with his friendly personality.

Chris aka “Dusty Dingo”

Chris Morris aka “The Dusty Dingo” started at Go Surf in 2017. He is a solid surfer with a solid attitude for fun. When he is not teaching he spends the winter up north in the desert chasing waves we can only dream of. Other than surfing and travelling “Dusty” loves to eat ham and cheese toasties and listen to blues music.

Andy+Go+surf+perth

Andy Johnston

Andy is part owner of GoSurf and has years of surfing experience, having taught his son Tom (Bomber) to surf at an early age. As he winds down from his other professional commitments, Andy is loving the change in pace, coaching and assisting in the everyday management of the business. As one of GoSurf's more senior surf coaches, his knowledge and experience is second to none.

Rosie McLaurin

Rosie started out with GoSurf as a 9-year old in one of our school holiday surf programs. Now no longer a kid, Rosie is a well loved surf instructor by the staff and customers alike. Her enthusiasm is contagious, whilst her maturity and knowledge of the ocean ensures each and every student leaves the beach safe and with a smile from ear to ear.

Kelly Schneider

Kelly joined the team in 2016. A motivated, fun and energetic fella with loads of surfing experience. Currently studying psychology at the University of WA he will analyse your surfing technique as well as your mindset :) Kelly has a knack for impressions so be sure to ask him (Ask for his Scooby Doo Impression).
